Dear Cranston Public Schools Families,
In the wake of recent horrific events, there have been many rumors and discussions through social media and within our student body of additional threats being made to our students. These rumors have perpetuated fear and anxiety in our schools.
The Cranston Police Department, Cranston Public Schools and School Committee, and Mayor Fung’s office are working together to assure all parents of the safety of our students. We have been in constant communication with each other throughout the week to address student and parent concerns.
On various social media, some students have made alarming remarks. Parents, as well as students need to know that those who post such remarks, which generate anxiety, will be dealt with in the harshest of terms, both within our school policies and through the Cranston Police Department.
We will continue to work closely with the Cranston Police Department to make certain that our students are safe. If you see an increased police presence at our schools, it is to assure parents and students, not to cause more anxiety or worry. One of the best strategies we can use for our children and young adults is maintain a normal routine. When we provide structure, we help our children not to worry and lessen the chance of anxiety.
This information is being released to simply inform and not to alarm or cause panic. Please keep in mind that our schools continue to be the safest place for your child on a daily basis. If you have concerns or questions, please contact your child’s principal.
Respectfully,
Cranston Public Schools Administration
